The Final Hours On Earth….

I’m not a big fan of Australian film, and the last good one I saw was probably Once Were Warriors, which funny enough is a new zealand movie anyway. But this film was recommended to me so I felt compelled to watch it.

The movie follows Jimmy, who leaves his mistress to go back and see his girlfriend who is at a party. The catch is there Earth is about the end in 12hours and the last point of destruction is Perth, Australia. Being from Perth it was good to see so many of our monuments and suburban life being captured on film.

On the way through suburban Perth, Jimmy comes across a little girl by the name of Rose who he manages to save from the clutches of a group of pedophiles. He now embarks on a journey not only to get back to his girlfriend but get this little girl Rose back to her dad.
This movie mainly evolves around the bond that is developed between Jimmy and Rose. And a heartfelt story of father and daughter bonding develops between the too. This movie contains a few scenes of high graphic violence, drug use and nudity.

For a Australian film it isn’t bad, and it doesn’t drag on so it feels quite short in length. For those who live in Perth, its definitely worth checking out, and for those who don’t live here, it might be worth checking out if your looking for a holiday destination, though under the circumstances of this story line it doesn’t make it look like a very viable place to visit.

The Rise And Fall Of Marilyn Monroe

I never knew anything about Marilyn Monroe, I had only heard of her and knew of her great moments in life. This biopic movie shows viewers her rise to fame and her fall into a torrid life of drugs and failed loved.

Kelli Garner stars as the blonde bombshell. The movie shows her childhood as a series of rejections from family members who wanted nothing to do with her. Her mother played by the amazing Susan Sarandon, comes in an out of Marilyn’s life and seems to be her only stability. Marilyn’s mother is detained to a mental hospital, and most of the time doesn’t even know who miss Monroe is.

From this movie I discovered that Marilyn Monroe was a blonde bombshell who caught the attention and the eyes of most any male she crossed the path of, and was envied by every female that layed eyes on her. But there was extreme pressure on Marilyn to be and remain a star. She had many relationships and marriages to men, her strongest with baseball star Joe DiMaggio. The pressure of Marilyn’s fame ate away at her that she turned to drugs to keep herself awake and to continuously work. It was depicted in the movie that the starlet shot to fame by using her sex appeal and slept her way to the top.

Eventually in the midst of all the turmoil, Marilyn crashed and burned, she had a miscarriage, and never had anyone to carry on her Monroe legacy. I quite enjoyed the movie and discovering why she was so appealing. It was sad to see the pressure eventually destroyed her, and Marilyn passed away at the age of 36. As they say the good die young…
